PUPILS at Loretto Junior School had a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the School’s state-of-the-art Indoor Golf Centre. The new facility is being built within the School’s former swimming complex and is due to open this summer.
The tour included an overview of site set up, site safety, site office, a guided walkthrough of complete site, an explanation of working environment and what the finished building will look like. The tour finished with a questions and answers.
Jonathan Hewat, Director of External Affairs at Loretto School, said, “ It was a most fascinating insight for the children. The transformation in the building is remarkable – from swimming pool to indoor golf centre! The pupils are greatly looking forward to using the new facility when it opens.”
Comprising an indoor driving range, short game facility to include chipping, pitching and putting, putting analysis, and indoor teaching studio complete with video analysis and Trackman as well as much more besides, the Loretto Golf Academy Indoor Centre will reinforce Loretto’s status as one of the top golf facilities of its kind in the UK, whilst also providing an invaluable practice resource for its pupils.
The centre will offer golf to all 600 pupils at Loretto through PE, games and activities. The Golf Academy’s development pathways start at 5 years old and allow pupils to develop their game as they progress through Loretto School. The centre will also improve the coaching and practice facilities for the 50 strong development and senior squad players, offering them the best possible support to take their game to the next level.
Set in a leafy campus just outside Edinburgh near East Lothian's coastline, Loretto provides an all‐round education for around 630 boys and girls – boarders and day pupils ‐ aged 3‐18. The School is made up of two parts: the Junior School ('The Nippers') for children aged 3‐12, and the Senior School for those aged 12‐18.
Founded in 1827 as Scotland's original boarding school, Loretto is well known for its relaxed family atmosphere, traditional values and emphasis on the development of the whole person, mind, body and spirit.
