Oswestry School Tees Off for Golfing Success
28th April 2015

Oswestry School has just launched a golf academy for interested pupils, under the guidance of PE teacher, Kevin Perry-Evans.  After an initial 6-week coaching programme with Richard Edwards, Golf Professional at Oswestry Golf Club, pupils will play fixtures against the Oswestry Junior section as well as other independent schools.

A team of three pupils took part in the Shropshire Schools Golf Championship last week, all performing well individually, with Daniel Haycocks (Form 1) coming 4th overall.  Daniel is a real success story, having only started playing golf in the last year, and has already secured a runner up place in the Junior Wales Open (U13) and has been selected to train with the Shropshire and Herefordshire County team.

Teacher, Kevin Perry- Evans has praised pupils' enthusiasm and hard work to date, "I'm looking forward to developing opportunities for our school golfers, and have entered us into the Independent Schools Golf Association matchplay tournament starting in September.  Until then, we have professional training and lots of fixture opportunities to look forward to, really moving the school's golf provision into a strong position for the future."
