On Monday 17 November Prior
Park College welcomed Karen Brown, England and Great Britain Women's Hockey
player and coach, to lead girls across all year groups in a Hockey Masterclass.
Karen won a Bronze Medal
at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and is the most capped female hockey player in

to forge careers as coaches in sport beyond their careers as players. Karen is
currently the Team GB Women's Assistant Coach and won a Bronze Medal as a coach
at London 2012.
The Prior Park senior
and junior girls enjoyed the coaching sessions immensely and they made real
progress in a short period of time. First XI Girls Hockey Captain Katie
Braithwaite commented: "I feel inspired by the Masterclass and it has
definitely given me the drive to develop my skills as a player further." The
Masterclass was a great experience for the Prior Park Hockey players. “The
girls really benefitted from the words of wisdom that Karen offered regarding
all sport being a fun experience from which the desire for self-improvement
through increased fitness and refinement of skills can spring” said Head of
Academic and Curricular PE, Mrs Lori Redman.
commitments mean she works a demanding schedule, and she will soon be
accompanying the GB Women’s Hockey Team on tour in Argentina. Headmaster Mr
James Murphy O’Connor said, “We would like to thank Karen for her time and her
support of the hockey players at Prior Park College. We are immensely proud of
our Sports teams and their future prospects look very bright indeed.”
