A quartet of talented Loretto School
mathematicians has won through to the national final of a competition to
represent the East of Scotland.
Jonathan Cunningham (13 from Lasswade),
Daniel Dalland (14 from South Queensferry), Calum Ogilvie (12 from Pencailtand)
and James Griffith (8 from Musselburgh) triumphed in the recent Team Maths
Challenge at Edinburgh University. The four Loretto pupils were competing
against 23 other schools from the East of Scotland and took part in 4 rounds,
each involving lots of problem solving and tricky arithmetic. After full marks
in the first round they went on to win first place in the competition and have
been invited to the national final in London on Monday 23 June.
