More than 90 pupils aged four to 11 years old have taken to their gardens to compete in a Harrogate school’s first ever Virtual Sports Day.
The Ashville Prep School event, held in the last week of term, consisted of five elements including standing long jump, shuttle runs and a distance run.
All of the competitors had been practising for the Virtual Sports Day during lessons on the College campus and at home.
Sports Day is one of the most anticipated events on the Summer Term calendar, and therefore the College was keen to make sure the day still went ahead in some capacity.
Although missing the crowds of cheering parents, the virtual events still enabled competitiveness as the four School Houses competed against each other.
Notable performances were made by Seb Gasper-Dunn in Year 6, Molly Jones and Scarlett Wright in Year 5, Edward Reaks in Year 4 and Jake Jones in Year 3.
In the Prep School Duckworth and Ellis Houses finished joint first, Riverdale third and Windermere fourth, whilst in Pre-Prep Windermere House finished first, Duckworth second, Riverdale third and Ellis fourth.
Dominic Bradburne, Ashville College’s Director of Sport, said: “I’d like to thank and congratulate all the pupils who took part in this, Ashville Prep School’s first ever Virtual Sports Day.
“Despite the day not being quite the same, all the participants showed great enthusiasm and they really committed to doing their best.
“We know how important it is to encourage pupils to keep doing physical activities and getting fresh air, and the Sports Day gave them something to work towards.
“A special thank you to all the parents who enabled it to be such a success, helping with all the important practice and of course the big day itself. We’re hopeful that the next time we host our Sports Day we can celebrate all together.”
