Millfield swimming coaches James Clarke and Daniel Waddingham have raised £620 for the Friends of Avalon Hydrotherapy pool appeal by participating in the Ironman Vichy in France in August.
The two coaches trained for the race over 6 months; an Ironman consists of a 2.4mile swim, 112mile bike ride and 26.2mile run.
The Friends of Avalon Hydrotherapy pool appeal smashed their target of raising £1.1 million to build the facility earlier this year, but are now fundraising for the £115,000 worth of equipment needed to fit it out. The pool will be based at Avalon School in Street and will benefit disabled young people, who currently have to travel 25 miles to Bridgwater to use a similar specialised facility.
James says, “We chose to raise money for Friends of Avalon as we know someone whose child will benefit from the use of a hydrotherapy pool in the local area. It was a real challenge in France, but knowing that the money we raised is going to such a great cause made it easier. Thank you to all of the Millfield community who have supported us along the way!”
