A Preparatory School artist has had a stunning painting shortlisted for a prestigious annual exhibition.
Maggie McDuff, a Year 6 pupil at Rydal Penrhos, was one of the Prep School entries for this year’s Young Artists’ Summer Show, which gives aspiring artists a chance to exhibit their artwork as part of the Royal Academy.
The pupil produced a superb landscape painting entitled ‘A Walk by the Sea’ under the exceptional guidance and support of art teacher Suzy Morris, and Maggie’s hard work was rewarded with a prestigious shortlisting out from more than 6,000 entries from across the country.
Her painting was one of only 700 that the judging panel shortlisted for the exhibition, which is the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.
This represents a significant achievement for Maggie, who has been a hugely influential member of the Prep School community and has made a lasting impact ahead of her transition to Rydal Penrhos’ senior site in September.
Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “This is an outstanding achievement and one that Maggie can look back on with an enormous sense of pride.
“Her landscape painting, which was inspired by a walk along the picturesque shoreline here on the North Wales coast, is a magnificent demonstrating of her artistic prowess and everyone at Rydal Penrhos is absolutely thrilled for Maggie.”
The Young Artists’ Summer Show will be online from June 10 until December, and a selection of these artworks will be on display at the RA from July 14 to August 4.
