Author visits Winterfold School
3rd May 2019

Budding young authors from Winterfold School in Chaddesley Corbett were overjoyed to meet their first real live author Molly Arbuthnott on Tuesday 30th April who stopped off to share her experiences of writing and to read one of her books to the children.

Molly, who is the niece of former Winterfold Headmaster Simon Arbuthnott and a Primary school teacher, has recently written two children’s books based on Oscar, the Arbuthnott’s beloved family cat, which went missing on a Caledonian Macbrayne ferry in 2014. Despite weeks of searching, Oscar was never found.  His ongoing adventures are immortalised in the pages of Molly’s books – Oscar the Ferry Cat and Oscar the Hebridean Cat.

Having worked with children, Molly understands what young children relate to and enjoy; repetition and simple, catchy language. The children thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the story of Oscar the Ferry Cat, which was recently nominated for the People’s Book Prize.
