A host of track and field stars at Rydal Penrhos achieved success at a regional competition recently.
No fewer than six pupils from the school secured podium finishes at the Conwy Schools’ Athletics Championships, which took place at Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay on Thursday, March 28.
Lower School pupil Lily Davies was one of the standout performers from a Rydal Penrhos perspective on the day, turning in a sensational effort to cross the line first in the 800 metres.
This was replicated by fellow Year 8 pupil Laurence Richardson, who recorded an impressive height of 1.42 metres to emerge victorious from the high jump category in fine fashion.
Others who performed notably were Eddie Hackman, Zac Speakman, Ella James and Kosi Iwobi, who finished second in their respective events and secured qualification to the Eryri Championships later this month.
Director of Sport Allen Boyd, said: “Considering this was their first taste of competitive action this season it was a hugely encouraging performance and it will be an experience that stands them in good stead ahead of their upcoming challenges following the Easter break.
“Hopefully this will be the start of great things for them as the Athletics season gathers pace, and they have all been working immensely hard with our coaches and strength and conditioning team which is bringing some very impressive results.”
