Millfield cricketers selected for England Development training
2nd April 2019

Four Millfield cricketers have been selected to take part in an England Development week over the Easter holidays.

Upper Sixth pupils Sam Young from Bath, Kasey Aldridge from Bristol and Lewis Goldsworthy from Cornwall and Lower Sixth pupil Ned Leonard from Street have all been selected to attend the week, which will consist of a training camp based at the ECB High Performance Centre at Loughborough University as well as matches against Bath Cricket Club, Gloucestershire Second XI, Ireland Academy and Scotland Academy.

The pupils, who are all part of Somerset County Cricket Club’s Academy, maintain an extensive academic programme alongside their cricket, including taking A levels in Accounting, Mathematics and Business Studies, as well as BTEC Sport Science.

Millfield’s Director of Cricket, Mark Garaway says, “This is a fantastic accomplishment for all the boys, but particularly for both Sam and Ned, who have been selected for the first time at this level. This recognition is not only a result only of hard work and dedication, but also of successful partnerships and positive support structures, and I would like to thank Somerset’s Academy for supporting and nurturing the boys’ talent. I hope the boys learn a lot from their time with England Young Lions Coach Jon Lewis, and I look forward to sharing their experience with the boys and girls who are part of the cricket programme here at Millfield.”
