U11 girls' hockey side defy age to claim North East Wales Championship
27th March 2019

A group of Preparatory School Hockey stars defied their age to claim an outstanding regional competition success.

The U11 team at Rydal Penrhos took part in the North East Wales U12 Championships, and they turned in a stunning effort in the face of older and more experienced opposition.

They began the tournament with a 2-0 triumph over Maes Garmon, before emerging from their game against Mold Alun School (Coch) with a comfortable 3-1 victory.

The group also managed to secure bragging rights over Rydal Penrhos’ Year 7 side thanks to a narrow 1-0 win, and their momentum gathered further pace thanks to a 2-0 success against Mold Alun School (Du).

With a 100 per cent record now within their sights, the talented youngsters held their nerve in the final outing to produce their most clinical performance in a 5-0 victory over Ysgol Brynhyffryd.

This ensured the Prep School side were crowned North East Wales Champions thanks to their sterling efforts, ensuring qualification to the National Finals later this year.

Prep School Head Alison Hind, said: “This was an extraordinary performance from our U11 Hockey side, who showed no fear against their older opponents to reach their overall objective.

“They are an incredibly hard working group who all work so well together, and hopefully they can take this confidence into the National Finals early next month and add to Rydal Penrhos’ rich history of sporting success.”
