It's a girl's world? Supporting female boarders
Date: January 16, 2018
Why you should attend?
“There is a growing gap in happiness between girls and boys. Girls are less happy than they used to be; we have seen more 10 to 15 year-old girls unhappy with their lives over a five year period.”
The Good Childhood Report, September 2016.
Today, the nature of the growth and development of teenagers is further complicated by the ever-changing landscape that young people inhabit. The influence on social media, internet websites promoting a skewed view of success, and a media obsessed with celebrity, image and appearance mean that the pastoral care and support for young people needs to be flexible and responsive to such constantly challenging circumstances.
The world of girls and young women can be even more extreme and stark, and hence there is a real need for better understanding of how such influences impact on their growth and development and how school staff can development their understanding and practices to better provide the essential support during these challenging times
