Course content: Teenagers today face some very different challenges and expectations to those we ourselves experienced.  If you are having to offer support or manage the behaviours or understand the needs, feelings and behaviour of teenagers of both sexes, then this conference is aimed at you! The key note speakers will consider current thinking about the adolescent/teenage brain as well as a wide range of issues and situations, from teen relationships, school and work, to a teenager's social life and behaviour.


  • To feel more confident to deal with difficult situations and challenging behaviours
  • To be able to recognise the signs of escalation of a situation and have strategies to enable them to de-escalate situations to avoid further conflict
  • To be equipped with the knowledge to decide upon the appropriate action when dealing with a situation
  • To have practical tools and solutions for dealing with a variety of situations
  • To have strategies to enable them to develop resilience in dealing with difficult situations and challenging behaviours


Jackie Cox, Psychologist and Counsellor

Jackie has a degree in Psychology and a diploma in counseling.  As a teacher, counselor and counseling supervisor with over thirty years’ experience, her casework has covered a wide variety of conditions.  She has worked for schools, for MENCAP, and as a Samaritan undertaking prison visits.  Later she coordinated the Harrow Victim Support Scheme where she was the first counselor to be trained specifically to deal with cases of rape.  She worked at Harrow School for more than thirteen years, teaching PSHE and acting as the school counselor.  For the past fourteen years she has trained professionals on issues of child protection, mental health, eating disorders and self-harm, the adolescent neurological changes and gender differences.
