An opportunity to join the team at one of the UK’s leading boarding and day prep schools
We are seeking to appoint, ideally for September 2022 (or January 2023), an outstanding teacher of Design and Technology to lead teaching and development across the school. We welcome applications from a wide variety of candidates: you may be a seasoned teacher seeking a stimulating new environment, or a younger teacher seeking an exciting role, or even switching to teaching from another related career. You will have a passion for Design as well as working with wood, metal and plastics and relish the prospect of working with exciting, motivated children and have strong design and technology skills in a range of disciplines. Whilst your teaching is likely initially to be classes in the 7-13 age range, we will mould the role around the strengths and enthusiasms of the successful candidate; this could include teaching Games, another academic subject and teaching younger boys.
The Design and Technology Department is housed in a recently fully refurbished, large, bright, well-equipped studio, with facilities for many aspects of Design and Technology as well as class teaching space.
The School is placing an increasing emphasis on STEAM subjects and the successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to lead innovative developments, with the aim of making Horris Hill a genuine leader in this area. With our promotion of STEAM learning, strong ICT and coding skills would be a major advantage.
Opportunities to take on further school leadership roles may be available for a suitable candidate; we would also be highly supportive of an outstanding but as yet unqualified teacher seeking to gain a PGCE qualification.
Besides Design and Technology, the successful candidate will bring enthusiasms for many other aspects of school life such as sports and extra-curricular provision and will be willing to perform boarding duties and contribute fully to a busy full time boarding school. For full-time staff this usually includes a commitment to teaching on Saturdays during term, in return for generous holidays.
