Role:

The Grounds Team as a whole is responsible for creating and improving the high standards of all sports surfaces. It assists other departments with their duties and maintenance of standards when requested. Grounds Team members are actively encouraged to provide ways to improve the running of the department.

This job description is written at a specific time and is subject to change as the demands of the Collegiate and the role develops. The role requires flexibility and adaptability and the employees of the Collegiate need to be aware that they may be asked to perform tasks and be given responsibilities not detailed in this job description.

 

Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • To be responsible for the obligations placed on an employee under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Daily safety & aesthetic inspection of all sports equipment, surfaces and the site in general
  • Mark out and line for a variety of sports, athletics on a variety of surface types
  • Setting up all pitches, areas, surfaces for matches and events
  • Continuous maintenance and renovation of all playing surfaces and external areas
  • Manage pedestrian traffic away from natural surfaces
  • Competent use of all machinery and its maintenance to the highest standard
  • Advise the Grounds Manager of any faults, issues within and out with the Grounds Team’s responsibilities
  • Surface tolerance and performance testing to provide a history of safe playing surfaces
  • Liaise with school staff, external and commercial lets to fulfil their requirements
  • Data logging of completed, daily works, machinery checks and chemical usage
  • Always promote a positive company image and conduct themselves in a professional manner
  • Provide a high level of hospitality for all visitors to the Estate
  • Undertake any training when requested or required and support trainees
  • Any other duties requested by the Grounds Manager, Deputy Grounds Manager or Estate Management in absence of a direct line manager

 

The Appointed Candidate will have:

  • Sports & Turf NVQ Level 2
  • Pa1, Pa2, Pa6 spraying license (Desirable)
  • Experience of winter sports turf maintenance is essential
  • Experience of cricket maintenance (Desirable)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other staff, pupils and visitors
  • Ability to work as part of a close-knit grounds team
  • General knowledge of other trades (Desirable)
