Felsted Students Engage in World Affairs

01 February 2012

“Today’s inspired youth; tomorrow’s influential adult – accepting responsibility for our world”

Felsted School will also be hosting its third Model United Conference this Sunday 4th and Monday 5th February. It is not an exaggeration to say that pupils will be debating, discussing and attempting to solve some of the world’s biggest problems during the 2012 Felsted Model United Nations Conference. The exciting schedule involves students at every level (local state, private, regional, national and international schools), with some attending from as far away as China, Morocco, Switzerland and Germany.

These students engaging in world affairs will be our business people and politicians of the future – it will be a momentous occasion seeing students from across the world share ideas on these global issues. Schools have begun to think like businesses, acting local but thinking global; educating their pupils to understand global policy making, networking and co-ordination.

The Topics that have been selected for the Fast Track Resolutions in the five committees are:

Ecology and Environment Committee - The Environmental Impact of Nuclear Power.Economic and Social Council - The De-privatising and Regulation of International Financial Institutes.Health Committee - The Tropical Disease Crisis.Human Rights Council - The Sexual Exploitation of Women and Children Caused by Trafficking.Security Council - The On-going Repression by the Assad Regime in Syria.

With ‘Conflict’ as the theme for 2012 and with many Human Rights issues on the agenda, Amnesty International has been selected as the official MUN Charity. Mr Graham Dossett from Amnesty International will be the Guest Speaker this year, which should give pupils considerable insight into many of the topics under discussion.

We would be delighted to welcome you to the Conference, even if only for a short time. Please contact Mrs Sophy Aitken first to confirm your attendance on 07801 860049.
